| PCF Dumpsite and Cemetery School, Tondo, Manila, Philippines |

The Canadian International School students and their families are invited to help support a very worthwhile initiative in a community that is very close to us all, the Philippines.
PCF Dumpsite and Cemetery School, Tondo, Manila, Philippines PCF currently feeds and educates 600 of the poorest children from the trash-picking communities in Manila. These children live in shacks on a dumpsite and their families make a subsistence living from sorting the garbage that is collected from the city. Jane Walker (OBE) opened the PCF School and her dedicated team of teachers, nutritional specialists, community organisers and medical professionals, work with the community, which numbers some 4000 people, to; • educate the children • provide basic nutrition and health care • introduce and support livelihood projects • and provide a link for the communities to the outside world. Prior to Jane opening the PCF School, most of the children went uneducated. In the recent flooding, most families lost the little that they had, so we need to collect some very basic school supplies in order for the children to return to school as soon as possible. It is proposed that each child or family compile a very basic school pack containing the following items: 2 pencils 2 ballpoint pens 1 small pack crayons 1 eraser 1 pencil sharpener 2 school notebooks 1 toothbrush 1 small tube of toothpaste The items should be placed in a plastic zip file the same as your child’s diary is housed in. There will be a sample displayed at the school entrance for people to view if require. In order to complete the cycle, FedEx has generously agreed to ship these items from Hong Kong to Manila at no cost, where they will be delivered directly to the PFC School, ensuring that your generosity is received directly by those desperately in need. We hope that CDNIS can support us with this very worthwhile cause in a community that provides us all with so much support. For students who choose to participate can you please hand in your packs to your teacher by Friday 20th November 2009. Please visit www.pcf.ph for more information on the charity and its work, or feel free to call me on 9221 2598 to discuss. Thank you for your support. Kind regards, Georgie Bruce |
